Welcome to the website for St Mary’s Church, Hadleigh!

We are a church that is being challenged by God to make a real difference in the community by the way in which we communicate the gospel in an ever-evolving culture.  Hadleigh is privileged to have a rich history, which has helped to develop Christian worship not only in this area but in the Anglican Church world-wide.  Our worship and mission is shaped by this rich and varied tradition, and we are passionate about being a church to which everyone can belong and in which everyone is welcome.

ADVENT STATIONS 2017

The Coming of Jesus in Today’s World

Fridays from November 24 - December 15

5.15pm - 5.45pm

During Lent 2017 St Mary’s staged a series of six Stations of the Cross, to relate the passion of Jesus to some of the pressing realities we know, if only at a distance through the news.

During Advent we are offering a series of stations with a similar intention: to connect the world of 2017 with the deep-seated hopes for a better life in the Jewish and Christian scriptures. The dates are:

First station: Friday November 24th

Second station: Friday December 1st

Third station: Friday December 8th

Fourth station: Friday December 15th

Fifth station: Sunday December 24th (at the Midnight Mass).

For Christians, hope flows into and out of Jesus Christ. His coming into the world brings into focus the longings of his own people for somewhere we can all call ‘home’, a world of justice and compassion, room to learn what it means to be truly human.

‘No room’ is one of the themes that runs through the Christmas story. Jesus was not always made welcome. ‘No room’ reminds us that the long search for  a more welcoming world is not over.  Advent invites us to wait hopefully and prayerfully, so that like the characters in its story we can be open to God’s call, and ready to play our part in the unfolding of God’s purpose for the world.

The music before the Friday meditations features the Syrian music student Rami, who fled his homeland in 2015. Rami made his Royal Albert Hall debut with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra in September 2017. His album My Journey was recently released by Decca, in support of the Red Cross.
