Hadleigh Mothers' Union is part of the Diocese of St Edmundsbury and Ipswich
The Mothers' Union is a worldwide Christian organisation with over 4 million members in 81 countries. Our aim is to promote family life in its many forms.
Our diocesan projects include providing cookery books for students, support victims of domestic violence, support chaplaincy teams in our local prisons, fund Away From it All holidays (AFIA) to help families in distress and who cannot afford a holiday. We provide Books of Comfort with prayer cards, book marks and comforting pictures for the use of patients at our local hospices and hospitals and read to children in hospital. There are local prayer meetings, quiet days, retreats, a prayer chain, coffee mornings and general meetings throughout the year.
The MU at St Mary's has 23 members and 1 future member, also two indoor members who are unable to attend meetings but pay their membership. We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (except August). We start with a short service and the Mothers' Union prayer, talk about how we are and anyone we know who needs our prayers and support each other in prayer and friendship. We have an outing once a year and a coffee mornng to raise funds for some of the above charities and also for the MU worldwide Emergency Relief Fund.
Membership is open to women and men who are baptised in the Trinity and who are concerned with the strengthening of marriage and family life. Most members belong to a branch at their local church and pay an annual subscription.
MOTHERS' UNION PRAYER
Loving Lord
We thank you for your love so freely given to us all
We pray for families around the world.
Bless the work of the Mothers' Union as we seek to share your love
Through the encouragement, strengthening and support of marriage and family life.
Empowered by your Spirit may we be united in prayer and worship,
And in love and service reach out as your hands across the world
In Jesus' name
Amen
