Welcome

The church is open 8am to 5pm every day and is accessible to wheelchairs. We act as the main information point for Hadleigh so leaflets and booklets guiding you around the church and also covering other interesting places to visit in the area are available. Often there will be a volunteer from the community on duty to help you.

St Mary's can be seen from all the approaches to the town of Hadleigh. It stands in it's unforgettable setting within the churchyard, guarded by the mediaeval Guildhall and imposing Deanery Tower (1495). The tapering and slightly twisted 135 foot lead covered spire at the foot of which hangs Suffolk's oldest inscribed bell, which has been heard over Hadleigh since c.1280. The handsome stone South Porch with it's amazing timberwork of the 1400's in the great South Door, and within a feast of features going back over eleven centuries.

We hope you enjoy visiting our church. As you walk around, we invite you to reflect on this sacred space; the stories it tells, and the communities it has served - and serves now. You may wish to sit quietly, to pray, or to light a candle.
